The AAAI/ISMA Personal Fitness Trainer Certification

Phase 1 – Workshop, Practical and Written Exam 

This is the initial step toward a rewarding career as a Personal Trainer. Introductions to anatomy, muscle physiology, cardiovascular physiology, kinesiology, client evaluation, program design, and the tools necessary to start your career will be covered.

This course includes the essentials and fundamentals of applied exercise science as it relates to personal fitness training of healthy populations. Safety, exercise physiology, assessment, nutrition basics, application of exercise concepts and principles, program design, and proper biomechanics are taught and emphasized throughout the course.

Phase 2 – Special Populations – Physiological and Structural Common Problems (Workshop, Written Exam Only)

A more in-depth look at the world of personal training with an emphasis on program design for common problems faced by Fitness Professionals.  This course covers advanced concepts of applied exercise science as it relates to personal fitness training with special populations, i.e. those with structural injuries and dysfunctions (arthritis, injuries and joint replacements, etc.) and physiological disorders (obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, fibromyalgia, hypertension, metabolic syndrome and obesity, etc.) plus during pregnancy or with the elderly and children. Safe application of modified exercises as they relate to these populations is taught.

Additionally, nutritional concepts and personal training business development are addressed. Where applicable, helpful advice is also offered to help trainers work effectively and safely with clients. The goal of the certification class is to make a well-rounded and marketable fitness trainer who can work with most people.

Breast Cancer Wellness Coach – Workshop and Written Exam Only 

Breast Cancer Wellness Consultant Certification

This specialty certification will assist trainers who are working with individuals recently diagnosed with breast cancer that have been cleared to exercise by their physicians. The objective of this course is to design fitness programs specifically for this population, and to assist them in gaining control over their lives through fitness. Understanding the limitations experienced from surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, and their effects on range of motion, nausea, fatigue, lymph edema, etc. are paramount to the personal trainer when designing a specially tailored program.

This class teaches a Four Phase Exercise Protocol for Post-Breast Cancer Treatments, defines oncologic and reconstructive treatment types and the side effects from these treatments, and teaches critical thinking skill development so Fitness Professionals can tailor each program individually.

Hour 1 –  Definition of Breast Cancer by Stage, Therapies and Reconstructive Treatments

Hour 2 – Physiological, Anatomical & Structural Side Effects From BC Treatments

Hours 3 & 4 – A Four Phase Exercise Prescription Protocol designed to slowly strengthen the BC patient back to exercise

Hour 5 – Scope of Practice Precautions and Guidelines for Fitness Professionals and Nutritional Guidelines

Hour 6 – Program Review and Q&A

Cycling Instructor Certification – Workshop, Practical and Written Exam

This Certification teaches you the information and skills needed to successfully teach group fitness cycling classes. It prepares you for both the written and practical testing in a non-threatening, comfortable environment. You will learn how to set the cycle to match each participants’ body, correct form, safety issues, music, exercise science, proper class format and more.

The AAAI/ISMA Sports Nutrition Workshop – Workshop and Exam Only 

Taught by Marjorie Jarrett, RD

This is a basic food science course designed specifically for Fitness Professionals. It teaches trainers to work with diet and nutrition within their scope of practice for enhanced fitness performance and health.

Topics Include: Sports Nutrition Protein, Carbs & Fat, Nutrition & Client Assessment, Nutrition Program Design, Nutrition for Perfect Health and Research Updates.
